Long nails can cause pain and pressure on toes and paws when walking and the following :-

Injury- they can cause injury to tendons and soft tissue

Arthritis– can cause joint pain and lead to arthritis

Mobility– can alter your dogs gait and movement making them less steady on their feet and can lead them to fall.

infection – long nails can split and cause infection and also cause leg complications.

If your dog’s nails are infected or badly damaged then you should seek veterinary advice.

Mature dogs -untrimmed nails can cause decreased traction which will compromise their mobility and cause pain.

New puppies you should get them trimmed every few weeks so that they get familiar with the process and will also help strengthen the nails.

Then at least monitor every 4 weeks , all breeds are different and nails can grow at different rates, age is also a factor , it also depends on their lifestyle the ground your walking them on.
